How can we Help?
For those who do not want a traditional wedding.
I have just watched one of my most favourite films Out of Africa, made in 1985. I remember coming out of the cinema eyes swollen from crying. Its the end – Karen Blixen (Meryl Streep) reading the poem over Denys Finch Hatton’s (Robert Redford) grave. It was their shared love and passion for each other but Redford maintained his independence and felt that he did not need a piece of paper to feel closer to and love Streep’s character more. The script includes the following;
“Now take back the soul of Denys George Finch Hatton, whom You have shared with us. He brought us joy…we loved him well. He was not ours. He was not mine.”
This was an alternative relationship set against some of the most amazing scenery I had seen in 1985 which on large screen sucked me in to that life.
A legal ceremony is not everyone’s ideal there many couples out there that do not wish to follow convention but still wish to celebrate their relationship. This post is not arguing for or against marriage. Its about doing something different and that fits well with your beliefs, personality and how you wish to live your life and share your life with someone else.
For those of you who want to go your own way and opt for a symbolic ceremony of your own making, your choice as to what is said about you both, your vows and how you are going to celebrate your togetherness then perhaps some of the Amalfi Coast’s venues may just be the side of unconventional that is just for you.
My secret is that I have been waiting for a couple who really would like to break with tradition and do something different, turn the usual itinerary for a wedding day on its head. I would love to work with brides and grooms that have a very different wedding day in mind. There may or may not be a legal ceremony in the mix but from morning to night something unique happens.
This week the Africana Famous Club came on to my radar, its in Praiano a little further on than Positano. It was the very first club on the Amalfi Coast and was representative of its owner/creator Luca Milano’s vision and energy; combining creativity, history & innovation. The sea was and is a highlight there is a glass floor in the night club, the restaurant menu is mainly fish courses and as the restaurant faces the sea its got something liberating about it. The nightclub is built into the side of the rock its a grotto that today has moved into the realm of live shows, Tarantella, Drag, Moulin Rouge and Burlesque. Whatever it is that takes your fancy. Fun and hedonism on the Amalfi Coast.
A fellow Italy wedding planner and friend of mine met her lovely husband at the club. She also told me about the glass floor. I know that I would be crawling on the ground if the floor was high above the sea – but can you just imagine a place like this it would be thrilling.
The Africana Famous Club is also open for wedding parties, it is possible to host a symbolic ceremony – imagine that in the caves of the club or looking out to sea.
There is a story that The Platters once sang at the club, if it were me I may just incorporate that bit of history and play one of their songs, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVX6f3OZ35o&feature=kp.
I think I am saying looking forward to hearing from you lovely couples who want something a little different.
“Everything turned up exactly on cue and everyone was so friendly and professional. I don’t know how you choose the people you work with, but it’s obviously inspired choices.”
