Gio, Jo or Giuseppina, whatever name you choose to call her (we prefer “Superwoman”), is an absolutely incredible wedding coordinator. Words cannot describe just how fantastic she is at her job. When I first spoke to Gio a couple of years ago, I was clueless about where to begin with our wedding. Stu and I had been together about 10 years and were living together so it wasn’t something which had really been a priority as we were already very happy together. Of course friends and family always asked when we would tie the knot and we felt perhaps we really should!
When I contacted Gio we didn’t know quite where in the world to get married but for obvious reasons, Italy had piqued our interest. When I spoke to Gio she was immediately warm and helpful and made me feel as though she had all the time in the world for me. She conjured up many dreamy scenes of the range of possibilities available in Italy, from beach weddings and Lakeside settings to enchanting rustic villas. She assured me there was something to suit every budget and with ours in mind she would help us find the perfect backdrop for our big day.
As Gio would discover, I’m not the most decisive of people, and at that time, Cyprus was another country which we were considering. We explored various options over the months (or maybe it was more like a year!) which followed and visited a travel company which had been recommended to us by a close friend. However, we couldn’t help but think of Italy and I kept remembering what a positive impression Gio had made on me.
In 2013 we decided to visit Sorrento for my dad’s 60th birthday (and Stu’s birthday as it turned out) and took the opportunity to explore the Amalfi Coast. At this time Gio was kind enough to recommend places we should go; even local eateries and bars! I thought this was a lovely touch as at this point we had made no commitment to her company, but as you’ll discover with Gio, her thoughtful little touches really set her apart – she always stood out in my mind even when we were exploring all the other options around the world!
Well suffice to say, we completely fell in love with Ravello. For those who have never been I cannot recommend a visit highly enough; it is quite simply breathtaking, I had never seen anywhere so beautiful and enchanting. I must admit, we dismissed it straight away as a wedding option as we thought it would be way out of our price range but as we discovered, Gio could make it happen!
Most of our correspondence with Gio was via email, with a few Skype calls for good measure. Before flying out to Italy, we had actually only physically met her once (at the beautiful Old Bridge Hotel in Huntingdon – Gio’s perfect suggestion). That was the fantastic thing about Gio though – there was never a need to constantly meet up as she’s so hot on emails, which are of course so convenient. Her replies were always speedy and extremely informative; we were never left up in the air about anything and it felt like not a day went by without correspondence which was so essential.
We quickly grew to look forward to Gio’s emails as not only did they mean everything was progressing well, she also has a lovely way with words and connecting with the reader. I remember she continued to conjure up beautifully romantic imagery of how our big day would turn out – she really understood us as a couple and our hopes and aspirations for the day.
Stu and I were ambitious in our wedding plans and I must admit I probably looked at Pinterest too much as the amount of things we wanted to achieve as a result of the ideas we found became a rather large task list! But Gio never deterred us from doing all of the little touches we had planned, quite the opposite; she embraced our ideas and made suggestions too based on her wealth of experience. She completely understood what we hoped to achieve and was infinitely helpful, even to the point of taking fans and candles in her hand luggage for us!
Over in Italy, she insisted she and her husband Martin (who we discovered to be equally as golden as Gio) be given all of the decorations and knick-knacks for the wedding to prepare and organise. She said they would do everything (including making up little boxes, tying ribbons to chairs, and much more) as they wanted us to relax and enjoy the few days leading up to the wedding. Although we didn’t wish to give them every task we had left to do (we felt the support we had received from Accent Events had already gone over and above anything we could have imagined), their help was an absolute godsend and their attention to detail was incredible.
I can honestly say our wedding day was the best day of my life! Not only were we deeply touched to have been surrounded by 27 of our loved ones who had made the journey to be with us on our special day, we also had the superb support of Gio, her fantastic husband Martin, and of course all of the super-talented professionals Gio had expertly organised, all of whom I’d recommend in a heartbeat – Gerardo (hair), Zoe (make-up), Francesco (photographer), Alfonso (videography), Marco (music), Armando (flowers), Tina and Nunzia (the Villa Eva team) Paola (caricaturist), Carmela (our ceremony translator who actually became so much more than that) and all of the other amazing professionals involved. We were overwhelmed by Gio and her team; we couldn’t have done it without them and will be eternally grateful.
Many of our guests have said just how much they enjoyed our wedding, and as for us, well, we had simply been on cloud nine (and have been ever since!). Thank you Gio from the bottom of our hearts for helping us realise all of our aspirations for what turned out to be our perfect wedding day. I would do it all again in a heartbeat (with the same man of course!)
All our love and eternal gratitude,
Lauren and Stuart Maclean xx
