I have been reflecting on last year’s weddings alongside some wedding industry research and I am seeing a huge connect between destination weddings and the highlighted trends for 2019.
Having watched a recent webinar from the Wedding Academy, the trends we can expect to see this year especially for the overall look and feel of weddings are, more intimate weddings, experiential, simplicity, textures, and details that will tantalise the senses, generally a more grounded and connected experience.
I am jumping up and down here as a UK and Italy wedding planner, I have long been of the opinion that a destination wedding can remove the stress of a large wedding and if it stays true to the couples honest wedding desires it has the potential to be a more engaged and personal experience all around, less frills more thrills!
Whether you are eloping or you have a small number of guests a destination wedding is suited to this style of wedding. Destination weddings have been leading the way for creating unforgettable moments for several decades.
Tim and Angela’s summer wedding was on point for creating a wedding day that was always going to be an incredible experience for all, an immersive and inclusive event in Italy through their wedding choices.
To focus on the location and its natural beauty, the aroma of the flowers and plants, the famous light and how this plays with the sea and sunsets, pairing all this with the taste sensation of their chosen menu, but not only taste the presentation of each course was also important, something that is at the heart of Art Hotel Villa Fiorella ethos .
We did have a false start on the venue search but this actually turned out to be the best thing that could have happened as it led us to what was going to be the perfect setting for their celebration. Tim and Angela, they were open-minded about the options but were also confident about their style and about what they wanted – this made working with them a real treat.
Fate brought me to your door!
Massa Lubrense is a 15 minute drive from the hustle and bustle of Sorrento, it is quieter and more sedate a place where you can appreciate the view without the sound of a vespa engines and the burst of car horns.
It is here that you will find the Art Hotel Villa Fiorella. A modern-style, experience hotel. There are 23 gorgeous and spacious rooms for guests to relax, you can shrug off your cares and step into serenity. The mood of this hotel was exactly what was needed for Tim and Angela, they are very busy people – for the days leading up to their wedding it was important to have a sense of calm. There are beautiful terraces and an infinity pool and poolside bar to unwind.
Tim and Angela chose Villa Fondi in Piano di Sorrento for their civil ceremony, like Massa Lubrense it does not have the crowds this was important to Angela and Tim alongside showcasing the iconic Bay of Naples and Vesuvius.
June was sizzling, as Villa Fondi is an open space parasols and fans were handed to guests and to ensure everyone remained hydrated we arranged for Ciro and his very cute Ape Bistrot to be on site ready to serve refreshing lemon granita and bottles of water, then after the ceremony Ciro popped the prosecco!
Choosing a civil ceremony provided the perfect amount of occasion as Tim and Angela had both been previously married. With some additional personalisation for their vows woven into the ceremony by Carmela, the interpreter it was a very beautiful and heartfelt moment.
And then came the fun part, all guests were transported to the Port of Sorrento and escorted along the pier to the waiting boat a surprise from Tim and Angela so that guests would have a different experience returning to Massa Lubrense, chilled beer and prosecco mixed with a little sea spray!
Arriving at the small port of Marina della Lobra, Tim and Angela walked with their guests up to road level where the arranged transport was waiting for the final part of the journey to the hotel.
Thoughtful and mindful attention to detail
Angela and Tim arrived after their guests to cheers and raised glasses and after spending time with their guests they took some moments to take in the beautifully presented reception area; noticing the small finishing touches the team at Art Hotel Villa Fiorella added to the tables. This attention to detail was at the fore of Angela and Tim’s entire experience at the Art Hotel – even after they left for Capri, they surprised to find a beautiful bouquet of flowers in their room from the Art Hotel family! It is these things that will make the memories.
So, how about those trends? Well I think Angela and Tim nailed it in 2018 for 2019 trends.
- Angela’s V-neck plunging neckline for her beautiful Stella York wedding dress
- Shimmer and shine detail on Angela’s Charlotte Mills Wedding Shoes
- Simple and elegant styling
- Small number of guests for a more intimate occasion
- Not forgetting the groom and groomsmen – colourful separates
- Locally sourced ingredients for the delicious menu
- Experiential – one of Angela and Tim’s special songs was sung live accompanied by the violin and guitar and later for a change in atmosphere cool jazz sounds with super talented sax player
- Personal vows recited at the ceremony
- Bright bold colours for wedding guest attire.
I hope you enjoy these bright and beautiful photos from Tim and Angela’s wedding day.
